Minnesota starts Web site for buying medicines in Canada
Gov. Tim Pawlenty on Friday afternoon unveiled a state-sponsored Web site that provides Minnesotans information for ordering prescription drugs in Canada.
The Web site so far lists two Canadian pharmacies that were visited and inspected by state officials in December and that are ready to fulfill orders from the state.
When he presented the Web site, Pawlenty cited examples of the price difference between medications bought in Minnesota and in Canada. For example, coumadin, a blood thinner used to prevent blood clots, costs about $75 for 100 tablets at U.S. pharmacies. The same prescription is about $35 when bought in a Canadian pharmacy. Anti-arthritis drug Vioxx costs between $75 and $95 for 30 tablets in the United States, but less than $50 when imported from Canada.
The prescription drugs available on the Web site are primarily maintenance drugs
