Penicillin VK Drug Dosage Directions
Abide by the directions provided by your doctor for using Penicillin VK. Penicillin VK is best absorbed when taken on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). But the medicine can also be taken with food. Store Penicillin VK at room temperature, away from the direct impact of heat, light, and dust. To get relief from your infection carry on taking Penicillin VK for the full course of treatment, even if you feel better in a few days. Do not miss any Penicillin VK dosage in the meantime. If you happen to miss any Penicillin VK dosage take it as soon as possible. However, if it's time for the next dosage, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Never take two doses of Penicillin VK together.
Penicillin VK Precautions
Never take Penicillin VK if you have/had a severe allergic reaction to a penicillin antibiotic (such as amoxicillin, ampicillin) or a cephalosporin antibiotic (such as Ceclor, Keflex, Ceftin, Duricef). The reactions include severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a question about whether you are allergic to Penicillin VK, contact your doctor or pharmacist. If your symptoms do not improve within a few days or if they become worse, check with your doctor. If you experience difficulty breathing or tightness of chest, swelling of eyelids, face, or lips, or develop a rash or hives, inform your doctor immediately. Do not increase Penicillin VK dosage unless your doctor tells you to do so.
FOR WOMEN TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS:
Penicillin VK may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. Use an additional form of birth control to prevent pregnancy while you are taking Penicillin VK. Penicillin VK is known to be excreted in the breast milk. If you are breast-feeding or likely to do so in near future, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
Penicillin VK Side Effects
Penicillin side effects that may go away during treatment include nausea, vomiting, mild diarrhea, or irritation of mouth or throat. If these Penicillin side effects continues or are bothersome, check with your doctor. Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience skin rash, hives, or vaginal irritation or discharge. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
